A Snackbar Widget for FileMaker

by Michael Layne

I spend a lot of time doing straight web development  and sometimes FileMaker isn't even part of the picture. I also spend a lot of time developing on the Claris FileMaker platform and when I do, I often want to implement features and behaviors that are were simply more available in the modern JavaScript framework landscape.

I'll leave it to you to investigate what a Snackbar or Toast notification is. My intention here is to share how we brought this user notification functionality into our User Experience for solutions here at Gearbox.

There is a forthcoming Add-on for this after we work a known kink.  There are many conversations around JavaScript being an integral part of the new Add-on paradigm and you can be sure we also incorporate JavaScript and its recently improved relationship with FileMaker in version 19.  You can read about creating them over at Geist Interactive.

For now, a quick demo file that should with the single showSnackbar() script that does the magic as well as an example for implementing it into your solution.

Feedback from a fellow developer:

Bloody legend...so simple to implement too, I had it set up in my solution and used in half a dozen places within 10 minutes.

Please take 15 minutes to complete this form and you may then download the demo file.  Just kidding...
